An Engraved and Water Gilded Louis Philippe Mirror

A gorgeous Louis Philippe mirror with original mercury glass. The mirror's inner beading and sparkling reflection make it a very special piece.
Some mirrors are gilded in modern slag metal, some are oil gilded, the very best are water gilded, and the very, very best (like extra virgin oil) are engraved and water gilded. This mirror is the model!
The engraving on the crossed ribbons on the outer moulding is very nice. The mirror is made from limewood, then gessoed. The final layer of gesso is tinted before the gold leaf is applied, prior to the mirror being engraved.
