French Demijohn Bottles
NZ$450
each
Just in from northern France, these lovely demijohn wine bottles have made it across the globe without a single break.
Used for fermenting wine and placed in wine baskets for transport, they vary in shade from celadon green to bottle green.
They came about when Queen Joanne I of Naples, La Rene Jeanne, came to tour a glassblower's hot shop - as the story goes, he was so nervous that he over inflated the glass and these giant bottles appeared. So admired were the bottles that they were named them for Dame Jeanne, or demijohn.
