Pair of Directoire Fauteuils
NZ$1,950
each
Louis XV furniture is wonderfully decorative, while Louis XVI is more restrained. Then we have the Directoire period during the latter part of the French Revolution. Despite its short duration, the furniture design of the period reigns supreme as a moment when the French “nailed it”.
The legs are turned but not completely fluted, aside from a small ribbing at the top and bottom. The upholstery line is raised and painted a darker shade, and the original stitched-horsehair upholstery is wonderful, and perfectly illustrated here.
This pair of chairs predates 1820, they are an example of perfect proportion.
There are two pairs available. We have upholstered this pair in a plain linen - but get with Katrina and Levi to have the other pair upholstered to suit your home.
