Antique Louis Philippe Crested Mirror

This is very desirable. A French, Louis Philippe, crested, engraved, and water-gilded mirror. Lesser mirror are painted and faux-gilded; better mirrors are oil-gilded; and the very best are engraved and water-gilded. This is one of those.

Many French mirrors are ornate, so it is so nice to find these elusive, plain Louis Philippe mirrors. This one features an applied Louis LXVI/ Rococo pediment with a scallop centrepiece, flanked by Rococo scrolling decorative flowers and laurel leaves.

The mirror itself is the original mercury glass from the 1820s, and has that wonderful crystalline reflection.
