A lot of French furniture is very ornate. The Louis Philippe period ushered in a wonderful phase of understated quality and subtle style.
Here we have a four-drawer Louis Philippe commode with its original fossil stone top over a shaped top burr walnut drawer. The next three drawers are framed in a Louis Philippe moulding and the drawer facings are decorated in wonderful book-matched burr walnut.
The plinth box is also burr walnut and the whole commode is raised on small Louis Philippe period feet. Perfect.
