Possibly the oldest piece in the collection at the moment, from the 1600s - if only this piece could talk!
It was varnished black when we purchased it in Liverpool last year and one of our talented people has managed to remove the varnish and reveal the original colour, carvings and patina.
You just want to reach out and touch the four fielded panels in the back of the settle, each decorated in that double diamond pattern.
The seat is panelled and might benefit from a cushion; ask Katrina, she'll do a proper job.
The front rail is that iconic arched Jacobean carving.
