French Engraved Mirror

NZ$4,450

In order, slag metal is the cheapest sort of gilding, followed by oil gilding. Water gilding is next, but the trickiest is called engraved or incised water gilding - of which this arched-top mirror is a stunning example.

Contained within the frame is the original mercury plate glass, in a great size, dating to the Louis Philippe period.
