French Poster
This poster was created to promote the Bernard Buffet exhibition at the Galerie Maurice Garnier, which was held from February 5th to March 28th, 1998.
Bernard Buffet, a French painter, printmaker, and illustrator, was a controversial figure in the art world. Although collectors adored his work, critics and contemporaries often derided it. Buffet gained fame following World War II, with his parade of gaunt expressionist figures, tortured depictions of Christ, and bleak still lifes. He was hailed as the pin-up of the Left Bank.
Buffet's figurative painting style is classified as expressionist or "miserabilist" due to his often grim subject matter.
