Arbalète-Fronted Commode
NZ$12,500
This iconic Gustavian commode could be the cover shot for a new Gustavian catalogue.
Gustav IV returned to Sweden from the court of Louis XVI and took French cabinet makers with him, hence the French look.
This oak commode is special (as pine was more commonly used in Scandinavia). It is finished in a colour we call Gustavian eucalyptus - stunning.
Arbalète is French for "crossbow" - the front of this dresser is in the manner of a crossbow. Fitted with 18th-century period handles and escutcheons.
