Saint Malo Bow-Fronted Commode
We have been importing French furniture for 30 years, during which time we have shipped some outstanding commodes, but this is the first time we have landed a St Malo commode, the most sought after commodes in Brittany.
They talk about the fluid lines of these pieces. We talk about bow-fronts or bombe commode but a St Malo commode is a shape of its own.
The shaped mitred top sits above the first serpentine concave drawer, which sits above the second serpentined convex drawer, which sits above a third concave drawer. Each drawer is fitted with original and heavy pierced-brass handles and beautiful key escutcheons.
The curved uprights terminate in ribbed and hoofed feet joined by a shaped frieze.
Made from oak and chestnut, this piece is world class.
