Boat Setting Sail / Oil on Board

Lars Theodor Billing, born October 14, 1816, at Landsgården in Källna in Skåne was a Swedish landscape painter. The son of the bailiff Christoffer Billing and Anna Fredrika Schmidt, a cousin of Gottfrid Billing, he married the singer Elma Ström. So there you go!

He graduated from Lund in 1831 and studied with the Norwegian landscape painter Jacob Mathias Calmeyer during the 1950s. He is represented with works at the Gothenburg Art Museum, the National Heritage Board, the Norrköping Art Museum and the Härnösand Museum and his sketchbooks are kept at the Lund University Library.
