Gendarme-Topped Mirror
There appears to be a run on Louis Philippe mirrors, ie the price of them in France is climbing, that's when you can find them in the first place.
Louis Philippe mirrors: plain, understated and gilded, made in the early 19th century.
A good mirror is oil gilded, a great mirror is water gilded, and a superb mirror is engraved and water gilded.
Top to bottom this mirror is pure quality. The frame's convex and concave moulding has a beaded inner surrounding the mercury plate-glass. The mirror's top is made in the manner of an 18th century policeman's hat - gendarme topped.
A really excellent mirror with a strangely contemporary look about it.
