Ebonised Serpentine Commode

We purchased this on our last visit to Sweden and it has sat in the warehouse for a year, these 18th century chests are so solid and heavy to lift.

Anyway, I got a big surprise when I realised that, very unusually, it splits into two halves. I think the maker must have thought it was too heavy and cut it in half!

It's been out and been sorted, an absolutely gorgeous 18th century Swedish serpentine-fronted four-drawer commode.

Finished in Gustavian black with original ormulu handles and key escutcheons. 

A gem.
