Louis Philippe Chest
Europeans fascination, in the early 1800s, for bamboo, is evident in this piece - Prince Albert (Victoria's husband) furnished the interior of the Brighton Pavilion in faux bamboo.
The mouldings of this early commode are carved in solid timber (bamboo is hollow), dating the piece around 1820. The detailed carvings are complemented by the Directoire Period style handles.
The commode has been finished in a Swedish Gustavian grey to complement its arabiscato marble top.
The Louis Philippe interpretation of the bamboo feet is super.
A stunning and unique piece.
