Large Wedding Chest

This Coffer or Breton Chest is very special – France, outside of Paris, is very depressed with up to 30% unemployment - The dealers are all going broke and so prices for brown furniture are depressed …  normally a piece of this quality would go in the trade, to Paris to be sold. We purchased this chest in Notre-Dame-du-Touchet, where the dealer said that his father used to get 60,000 francs for a similar piece, in the trade 30 years ago ( $20-$25knz ). These carved oak wedding chests are close to 400 years old, 17th century! Beautifully carved they have only survived this long because they are solid oak. It is the first example of a wedding chest we have had through in 30 years of business - it is the real deal and must not be underestimated.
