French Chestnut Coffer
Purchased in Brittany, this is an 18th Century Chesnut Coffer. The Coffer is very desirable because of it's panelled front and planked top. The later Louis XV models have Louis XV Cabriole legs - but this is an early Louis XIV version with 'style' feet where the corners of the coffer become the feet. These coffers have a lift off lid, however this has later hinges. The Studs (possibly later) are added when the coffer is given as a wedding present.
We have conservatively dated this coffer at 1750 but possibly Louis XIV period 1690 to 1715.
