Chippendale Mirror
This is a fantastic 18th century, Chinese style, Chippendale mirror. During the 18th century, trade between England and China was at a high, and importation of goods such as tea, silk and porcelain helped spread Chinese designs and motifs throughout Europe. Although Chippendale never travelled to China himself, he was influenced by English interest in China. The style of these mirrors are known as "pagoda topped". In Chippendale's book "The Gentleman and Cabinet Maker's Director", several designs for mirrors and beds feature the pagoda motif.
