Dome Topped Walnut Boxes

Two wonderful dome topped walnut boxes. The smaller one is described by the New Zealand resident expert Mr Brown as follows: an English dome top stationery box dating around 1860, made from rich Cognac coloured burr walnut, with wonderful figuring and a natural lustrous patina. The top is mounted in a handsome brass mount incorporating a central vacant cartouche, and the front has a complementary escutcheon, again engraved. The original interior lacks the stationery fittings but this makes it a useful small box (dimensions given below). The larger box has sold.
